Roller Skate Shows of Oaks

Home
There have been Spring and Fall opening shows for many years. The Spring and Fall opening shows grew into a fund raiser to help the skating club. Below is a list from 1940 through 1966 based on the souvenir programs and mixed show pictures video.

Skate club members and session skaters - Oak-Ettes (ladies), Ka-Dettes (gentlemen), Junior Oak-Ettes (young ladies) and Junior Ka-Dettes (young gentlemen) were the cast members. Competitive skaters were assigned solo numbers. These shows helped competitive skaters become comfortable performing in front of audiences.

Ruth Bollinger led the "Sewers & Doers" in making and fitting costumes. Members of the Oaks Social Club, volunteers and mothers of skaters made up this elite group.

A portion of the show admission fees were donated to the club traveling fund to help with travel expenses to competitive meets. All the shows were sanctioned by the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association of America.

Nick Viscuso did not play at Oaks yet he graciously provided background music for videos created with Oaks related pictures.
